Weights & Weighing

  1. Before any greyhound is allowed to school or race, the trainer shall establish the set weight with the Clerk of Scales.
  2. All greyhounds shall be weighed in not less than 1 hour before post time for the First Race.
  3. Upon weighing in, should there be a variation of more than 1 1/2 pounds from the greyhounds established set weight, the judges shall order said greyhound scratched.
  4. Immediately after being weighed in, the greyhounds shall be placed in lock-out kennels under the supervision of the paddock judge and Kennel Master.
  5. If at weigh-in time there is more than 2 pounds variation between the present weight and the weight at the greyhound's previous weigh-in, the Judges shall order said greyhound scratched.
  6. Each greyhound shall be weighed prior to going to the post. If a greyhound loses weight in excess of 1 1/2 pounds while in the lock-out kennels, the judges shall consult with the track veterinarian. If, in the opinion of the track veterinarian, the loss of weight does not impair the racing condition of the greyhound, the judges shall allow the greyhound to race. Otherwise, the greyhound shall be ordered scratched.

What Do Form Chart "Calls" Mean?

Off
The break call is taken as the greyhounds break the box, and is an indication of the advantage a racer could achieve by breaking from the start box quickly.
1-8
The listed 1/8 call at Lincoln Greyhound Park is taken as the greyhounds leave the first turn for 5/16 and Ocean Course events. This call (excluding trouble) is a good indication of a greyhound's early speed.
Stretch
The stretch call for all Lincoln events is taken midway through the final turn. Comparing this call with the 1/8 call (excluding trouble) gives a good indication of a racer's backstretch capability.
Finish
The Official order of finish and Official Race Time are established by the photo finish camera situated at the finish line.

Distances Raced at Lincoln

5/16
5/16 Mile (550 yards). The most popular distance used today in greyhound racing. Actual distances may vary slightly from track to track. Approximately 75% of any 12-race program will be made up of 5/16-mile races. Popularly referred to as a "sprint" for the contestants.
O.C.
Ocean Course (670 yards). The distance involves the greyhounds traversing three turns before finishing in front of the grandstand. Most big money "Stake Races" in greyhound racing today are contested over a distance of 3/8 mile. These runners normally need more stamina than the sprinter.
L.C.
Lincoln Course (776 yards). Naturally a more grueling distance for the greyhounds, this 7/16 mile distance has proven to be popular with the greyhound fans. Endurance and stamina are the keys to greyhounds asked to run this far.
