Jimmy Mazz

Sunday, April 21, 2019 2:00pm

Jimmy Mazz’s Las Vegas Legends is a musical journey thru Jimmy’s favorite songs by a wide variety of performers from the classics to today’s contemporary artists hot off the Las Vegas Strip over the Years. Jimmy’s high energy and enthusiasm is tempered only by his ultra-smooth vocals as he croons the voices of tunes from the Ratpack and Nat King Cole, then quickly moves on to glide thru his impressions of the likes of Tom Jones, Englebert Humperdinck, Tony Orlando, Bobby Darin, Lou Rawls, Tony Bennett, and Frankie Valli and Neil Diamond to name a few.

Yes, he’ll certainly stop and focus on “The King”, Elvis Presley with a very amusing parody, but keeps moving & crooning as he covers many more greats like Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Durante’, Rod Stewart, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Michael Buble’, and maybe even The Boss, Bruce Springsteen. And be sure that in typical Jimmy Mazz style, there will be a few surprises thrown in for good measure. Never the same show twice. Visit jmazzsings.com for more information.

As they say of the weather in New England, “If you don’t like it, wait a minute.” the same can be said of their varied and daringly unexpected song selection. Some renditions feature the simplicity of a single acoustic guitar and vocalist while others take you to the opposite end of the spectrum featuring the sound of a full 5-piece band with backing tracks, created live from scratch. Requests from the audience are always welcome and sincerely encouraged!

Darik & the Funbags

Saturday, May 11, 2019 9:00pm

The one and only, often imitated, never duplicated, creators of music, fun and mayhem all over the northeast since 1997!

Darik and the Funbags started playing Connecticut in 1997 and have since grown their territory faster than a door-to-door Jehovah’s Witness, spanning gigs up and down the eastern seaboard. They boast national exposure being featured on VH-1’s Cover Wars and is one of the few cover bands to get it’s name on New Havens “Legendary Toads Place” Wall of Fame.

Although they like to think they are too “bad ass” to be corporate darlings, they’ve won over that circuit too; with appearances at the GHO/Travelers Golf Championship, the Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament, The Major League LaCrosses National Championships, Yale Bowl, Gampel Pavilion, Met Life Stadium, New Jersey, Resort towns such as Killington, VT and Newport RI as well as Bridgeport, Granby, Guilford, Chicopee, S. Windsor, West Hartford, Enfield, New Milford and Southington town sponsored events as well many University and College performances. You can say that they acclimate well! And just when you thought they would draw the line there, they’ve become one of the most popular and sought out wedding groups in the region! They’ve helped consummate marriages all over New England in typical Funbag fashion, even for couples who’ve met right at a Funbag show! …so you can say they clean up pretty nicely as well!

Jennifer Tefft is a fired up, energizing presence who pulls earthy music from its roots and breathes fresh, soulful, rock and roll life into them. Her music combines intense rhythms with melancholy textures and haunting vocals that wind easily from darkly ethereal to outspoken, creating her own brand of Gritty-Lush Alternative Rock. After getting her start playing for change in the subway tunnels and streets of Cambridge, MA, Tefft has gone on to release four CDs on her own Gypsy Spin Music label

Jennifer’s releases have received critical acclaim such as a Boston Music Award nomination for Best Female Vocalist, and a “Boston’s Best Unsigned Band nod by local press. Shift was awarded “Best Alternative Album” by the Just Plain Folks association in Hollywood, CA. Songs from all 4 releases have been and continue to be used on National Television shows such as CSI, MTV, Stargate Universe, One Life To Live, The Young & The Restless and many others. The intensity and energy of the live show, whether it be a full band performance or a more intimate acoustic gig, often takes people by surprise and when people leave a Jennifer Tefft show, they are already making plans to come back!

Mercy Brown

Saturday, May 25, 2019 9:00pm

Mercy Brown formed in 2012 when Mario Lima and Jeremy Santos met through a mutual friend who had suggested they perform together. The two hit it off instantly, deciding to form a group.
Jeremy introduced Mario to the Tinker’s Nest, a local bar that had an open mic run by Jeremy’s long time friend, Colby James. There, Jeremy and Mario discovered their mutual love of classic rock with a modern acoustic twist.
Eventually the two auditioned drummers and bassists to form a full electric band, that ultimately did not survive due to creative differences. But rather than call it quits, or start the process over, they decided to strip it back down to acoustic, the way it started, and continue to play out. This has been the formula ever since.
Jeremy and Mario work so well together, that they don’t even have to meet up and practice new material. Each one knows the other’s strengths so well, that they can instantly tell if a song will work with the other.
Their live shows are off the cuff and no two performances are the same. From a long list starting with Aerosmith and ending with ZZ Top, Mercy Brown plays songs that everyone will enjoy. Their specialty is taking songs that you would never expect to be done acoustically, and make them into sonic masterpieces. Follow them at facebook.com/MercyBrownRI and see when they will be playing near you next!

Popa Chubby

Friday, June 7, 2019 9:00pm

Twenty five years of hard rocking blues.

Popa Chubby, born Ted Horowitz, has been hard rocking the blues in his fierce and soulful way for more than 25 years. Over the course of a career that dates back to 1994, he has been a force of to be reckoned with on the guitar, and his tempestuous, soulful playing has never been more powerful. An imposing figure with a shaven head, tattooed arms, a goatee and a performance style he describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson,” Popa Chubby is an endearing character who is one of the genre’s most popular figures.

His career has always been about moving forward and carving a place for himself in the imposing terrain of the music business, overcoming odds to continue growing and maturing as a creative force. He has built a constantly increasing base of fans across the world, where in many territories he is a star. A native New Yorker, Horowitz’s first gigs were in the NYC punk scene as a guitarist for what he reflects was a “crazy Japanese special effects performance artist in a kimono called Screaming Mad George who had a horror-movie inspired show.” Right from the start he was immersed in rock ‘n’ roll as theater, and learned from George and others playing CBGB’s at the time that included the Ramones, the Cramps, Richard Hell, whose band, the Voidoids he joined that rock ‘n’ roll should be dangerous. He reflects, “Musicians like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols weren’t just bands. They were a threat to society.”

The Blues however was the foundation of his playing style. He recalls, “Since I’d grown up on Hendrix, Cream and Led Zeppelin, when I started playing blues in New York clubs I understood that the blues should be dangerous, too. It wasn’t just from playing in punk bands. Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters were dangerous men. They’d cut or shoot you if they thought it was necessary, and Little Walter packed a gun and wouldn’t hesitate to use it. That danger is a real part of the Blues and I keep it alive in my music.”

Popa Chubby is his own man for better or worse. He reflects, “I’m living in a wild time, and that is where the inspiration is drawn from. There are my issues, but the picture is much bigger than me and my situation. Everything is breaking down in the world. The lines are being redefined. We all need something.”

Steven Palumbo as Dean Martin

Sunday, June 16, 2019 2:00pm

Lush…resonant…romantic. The words apply not only to the lyrics of the songs he sings, but also to the qualities of Steven Palumbo’s elegant voice. The sheer love of music and performing comes through in every note he sings.

Currently best known for his portrayal of Dean Martin in a ‘Rat Pack’ tribute, Palumbo’s powerful voice and personal charm play well to fans throughout New England and indeed all along the East Coast.

A natural entertainer, Palumbo began singing during his childhood in Providence, Rhode Island. He took voice lessons and grew up loving all kinds of music. In fact, he was spotlighted early on when selected for the prestigious Barrington Boys Choir (an American version of the one in Vienna). Through that opportunity, he appeared in the operas Carmen and Tosca at the Providence Performing Arts Center, formerly The Ocean State Theater. Roles in musical theatre followed. Though he later graduated from Ithaca College in New York with a degree in education, Palumbo never lost his ease onstage. A teacher by day, professional singer by night, and audiences applaud this doubly-talented individual.

Charlie Marie

Friday, June 21, 2019 9:00pm

Charlie Marie, like so many songwriters, was first introduced to country music by her grandmother. At the age of ten, she was already hooked on Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. Her admiration for their artistry has only grown stronger since and shines through in her own repertoire. With current influences like genre-breaking Margo Price, Charlie is fusing the history of the trailblazers of country music together with a modern-day flair.

She began her songwriting journey while living in Nashville and attending the prestigious Belmont University. After moving back home to Rhode Island in 2016, Charlie Marie truly found her strength in live performance. A staple at venues around her hometown, she took to the road in July 2018 where she found herself recording new music along the way. At an Airbnb unit in Charleston, South Carolina, she and her lead guitarist hammered out the new recordings.

Boz Scaggs: Out of The Blues Tour 2019

Wednesday, July 3, 2019 8:00pm

It’s appropriate that Boz Scaggs’ new album is Out of the Blues, since the blues is what first sparked his five-decade musical career. Scaggs joined the Steve Miller Band in San Francisco, performing on that group’s albums Children of the Future and Sailor, before launching his solo career with 1968’s seminal Boz Scaggs LP, recorded in Muscle Shoals, AL for Atlantic Records. Scaggs continued to mine a personalized mix of rock, blues and R&B influences, along with a signature style of ballads on such influential ’70s albums as Moments, Boz Scaggs & Band, My Time, Slow Dancer and 1976’s Silk Degrees. The latter release became a massive commercial breakthrough, reaching Number Two and remaining on the album charts for 115 weeks. It spawned three Top 40 hit singles: “It’s Over,” “Lido Shuffle” and the Grammy-winning “Lowdown.” Subsequently, “We’re All Alone” from that same album, would become a #1 single for Rita Coolidge. Silk Degrees was followed by the albums Down Two Then Left and Middle Man, and such hit singles as “Breakdown Dead Ahead,” “Jo Jo” and “Look What You’ve Done to Me.”

Tickets on sale Saturday, March 16th at 10am!

Pablo Cruise

In 1975 Pablo Cruise released its first A&M album simply entitled Pablo Cruise. The album cover was shot in the tropical gardens of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and it featured a huge gorilla standing front and center. The band, David Jenkins (guitars, vocals), Cory Lerios (keyboards, vocals), Bud Cockerel (bass, vocals) and Steve Price (drums, percussion) were no where in sight. From 1975 to 1985 the band toured the United States, Canada and Japan extensively, welcoming fans to “Climb Aboard The Good Ship Pablo Cruise.” Reaching the top 10 with mega hits like “Whatcha Gonna Do When She Says Goodbye?” and “Love Will Find A Way,”and several other top 20’s, the band went on to sell several million albums and singles collectively and established themselves as well respected writers and performers within the industry. They appeared on numerous TV shows, including Dick Clark’s American Bandstand, The Merv Griffin Show, The Dinah Shore Hour and in 1979 they broke Elvis Presley’s attendance record at the Sahara Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, becoming the first rock band to play a casino showroom. They also became the first rock band to grace the stage at the Grand Ole Opry, but by 1985 after completing several national tours and releasing 7 studio albums in all, the band decided to take a hiatus… one that lasted nearly 20 years. In 2005 a reunited Pablo Cruise picked up where they left off and today the band performs all over the U.S. and Canada and they’re enjoying it more than ever. Since getting back together, they have released two live CD’s and a DVD all through Sony Music documenting their exceptional live shows. “One of the great things about playing shows after all these years is that the core band, David, Steve and myself are still here and lovin’ it, says Cory! Today Pablo Cruise is bringing more energy and excitement to the stage than ever before and with the addition of Larry Antonino and Robbie Wyckoff, the band has never sounded better If you get an opportunity to see Pablo Cruise live, don’t pass it up… “IT’S GOOD TO BE LIVE”

Orleans

Orleans is best known as the Pop/Rock band that brought you the classic 70s hits “Still The One,” “Dance With Me” and “Love Takes Time.” Now in its 46th year, Orleans has produced a body of work spanning 16+ albums and 4 DVDs. The band continues to be in great demand for live performances, as they have been for over 4 decades. Co-founders Lance Hoppen and John Hall, along with long-standing members Lane Hoppen, Fly Amero and Charlie Morgan deliver Orleans’ music with power, class and integrity to appreciative audiences everywhere – 70s Pop/Rock icons “still havin’ fun” 46+ years later!

Firefall

For founder Jock Bartley, Firefall is a 40 year labor of love. Their layered harmonies backed by driving rhythms transcends many genres from rock to country to AC and brought the band platinum and gold success with such hits as “You Are The Woman,” “Strange Way” and “Just Remember I Love You.” Other major Firefall radio hits include “Cinderella,” “Goodbye I Love You,” “Livin’ Ain’t Livin” and “Mexico.” Extensive touring with Fleetwood Mac, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago, America and many others.
